The last time I visited a place called Anahata was at the top of a mountain in Golden Valley, New Zealand when I went for a yoga and meditation retreat many moons ago. On Mother’s Day this year, I was invited along to Anahata in Kemptown, Brighton to be treated to a lovely reflexology treatment by a practitioner called Liz Linington.
I find Mother’s Day a little tricky, once the boys have given me breakfast in bed and their lovely homemade cards they scuttle off to watch Paw Patrol and leave me with the gigantic void of not having my own Mum around any longer. Considering she died over fifteen years ago, those who haven’t yet lost a parent may think it a little odd for it still to affect me so greatly. I find it harder in many ways as time goes on, forgetting the conversations we had, not being able to work out what she would say about certain things as they were never discussed in my twenties when we used to sit chatting for hours at the kitchen table over coffee and wine. She never met my kids, we never talked about this part of my life, it was in the distant future, there seemed no need at the time.

Reflexlogy at Anahata Clinic, Brighton
I choose to spend the Mother’s day on my own, some space to remember my own Mum and to be frank a day off from parenting. As the boys remind me each year, when is it their day again?! Reflexology was a lovely treat to be offered at Anahata Clinic.
Liz was very welcoming and had some relaxing music playing when I entered the spacious room. She took a full medical history before we started and asked if I had any problem areas that day. I had none, so simply lay down and relaxed. Liz practices a healing technique which combines facial and foot reflexology to produce a powerful healing effect. Here is a link to a video where you can see me chatting with Liz about the process. I had forgotten how relaxing reflexology can be, I will be back for more soon.
Liz is offering £10 off any treatment until the 31st July when quoting Mad About The Boys.
Disclosure : I was offered the treat for Mothers Day as a gift from Anahata, all words and thoughts are my own.
